May/June 2008
Dear Reader:
It's almost summer, which supposedly means I can finally put away the snow shovel (although here in Denver,
major snow storms have occurred in June amazingly enough!). I'm loving the longer days and warmer weather.
This summer I'm challenging myself to put together a mini-Xeriscape garden.
Below is a summary of recent and upcoming events, plus some photos:
May 31 - June 1: POE'S DEADLY DAUGHTERS
My article "Missing Persons 101" will be posted on the Poe's Deadly Daughters blog May 31 and June 1. Should be an interesting topic for those writing
stories where someone is tracking a missing person, or maybe you've always been curious
how to start looking for someone from your past. Drop by, check it out. Everyone who posts
a comment/question will be eligible for a gift drawing (a disguise book safe!).
CITIZEN'S POLICE ACADEMY
Last week, I graduated from the Wheat Ridge Police Department's Citizen's Police Academy. So what's a
Citizen's Policy Academy? Basically, it's a course of study, taught by law enforcement officers and
specialists, that covers everything from firearms to fingerprinting to criminal law to identity theft.
Below is a photo of me behind a Bunker shield used by the SWAT team:
A Citizen's Policy Academy offers great information (and hands-on experience!) for fiction writing,
or if you're interested in working in law enforcement, or if you simply want to better understand
how a police department works. If interested in attending one, contact your local PD and ask if they
have such a study course.
BUDDAH
Sorry to say we lost our big and much-loved dog Buddah this month. In my website picture, he's
the doggie face peeking in the door on the bottom left. He lived a long, and very happy, life (14 years), which we're
grateful for.
Every month, 2 names are picked from my newsletter subscription list to win a free book from my backlist
(plus other goodies now and then) so be sure and sign up (click on "Newsletter" link above)!
That's it until next month! Have a great June, Colleen
